Doune & Dunblane Fling, Sunday 30 May 2010

Scottish Blend, Doune Castle, 1pm – 5pm, Historic Scotland admission prices apply

Ever wondered how many different types of music there are in the locality? Well Fling @ Doune Castle has the answer!  A vibrant festival of music, dance and family fun takes over the Castle for the afternoon.  The traditional will rub shoulders with the modern, delighting every ear – and there’s plenty for the kids to do as well.

Everyone’s favourite, The Callander Pipe Band, will open the afternoon with their strident skirls marching from Doune Cross to the Castle.  Be wowed and inspired by the sheer talent of the young Whitelees School of Rock band.  If jazz is more your style, then we’ve got a special Trad Jazz treat in store.  Fancy a return to the sixties folk rock scene?  Then Late Harvest is the band for you with John Boyd singing like 'Neil Young – but even better!'.  Chill out to the sound of our Sax Quartet before you put your Greek dancing shoes on.  Yes, the Greek Dancers are back!  But if this is all a bit too energetic, then sooth your soul with the beautiful classical sound of Aberdour Flute.  From classical to classic blues, David Miller will amaze you with his finger-picking blues guitar style and singing.  Cluaran had the crowds in rapture last year so we had to invite these amazing young Highland dancers back!  Are you a bluegrass fan?  Your local Bluegrass Band’s great lively sound will entertain you no end.  If you enjoy a good story then Paraig MacNeil’s captivating stories are not to be missed.  Fling @ Doune Castle would not be the same without the world renowned Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band to end the afternoon in good old traditional foot-tapping style.  But wait; there’s even more!  For the kids we’ve got the ever-popular Family Treasure Hunt, Olivia the Face Painter, and fun, games and music with the Children’s Entertainer!

Don’t forget to visit the Doune Sandwich Shop’s catering tent with mouth-watering food to whet any appetite.  And, don’t worry about parking, there will be a free Fling Bus running between Doune Castle and Dunblane all afternoon.  So pack your cares away and join in the fun-filled afternoon at Doune Castle!
